Abprazole: The Usual Ulcer Damages | Horse Ulcer Medication
Date: 07 Dec 2011
There is a new treatment for equine gastric ulcers. Abprazole is used not only in treating the condition, but also in preventing it from developing when early signs are detected.
What are gastric ulcers? Gastric ulcers are the long-term effects of continuous exposure to acids regularly secreted by the horse’s stomach.
In the wild, the horse grazes for almost 16 hours a day, the stomach acids would then be reduced by the forage and the presence of bicarbonate in their saliva.
If a stabled horse is allowed access to hay and grazing every now and then, the natural process of preventing the formation of gastric ulcers will continue normally. Unfortunately nowadays, horses are made to feed on highly concentrated diets with a limited access to forage. This starts a hyperacidic environment in the stomach. If for some reason no forage intake still continues, the increased gastric acidity persists and thereby opens the possibility for an ulcer to slowly develop.
Abprazole is used to prevent equine gastric ulcers in horses that are prone to stress or other conditions that subject them to be exposed to possible stomach ulcers. It is also being used in treating existing ulcers. Abprazole is prescribed as a precaution when some medications are used like the NSAIDs, corticosteroids and many other drugs that can cause stomach ulcers. Results are seen within three to five of taking Abprazole.
Abprazole contains 700mg of Omeprazole granules that are enteric coated (blue colored) in a single dose sachet.
